Colombo, August 28 (newsin.asia) – The number of coronavirus positive patients detected in Sri Lanka crossed the 416,000 mark as another 4,591 new Covid-19 cases had been detected across the country yesterday (27).
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases stands at 416,961 with 55,399 active cases registered across the island and as many as 353,191 recoveries according to the Government Information Department.

Sri Lanka also registered 214 more Covid-19 related deaths yesterday, the Director-General of Health Services confirmed. The victims have succumbed to the virus infection on Thursday (26).
This is the highest number of deaths reported within a day since the beginning of the pandemic and the second consecutive day the daily fatalities count crossed the grim milestone of 200.
Reportedly, as many as 151 deaths were reported among the elderly people who were aged above 60 years.
In addition, 58 individuals aged between 30-59 years and 5 people below the age of 30 years have also succumbed to the virus infection.
The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 8,371 as of now.
