Colombo, May 22 (newsin.asia) – The highest daily tally of COVID-19 patients and fatalities was reported on Saturday (20), registering 15 confirmed cases and three fatalities.
As per the daily situation report of the Epidemiology Unit, the fresh infections took the active cases to 61 and the total cases to 672,357.

Besides, new COVID-related deaths pushed the total number of fatalities to 16,864.
According to the World Health Organisation, Sri Lanka currently stands at 80 positions out of 231 countries in terms of the number of cases reported since the pandemic started.
Responding to the situation, a senior health official told Daily Mirror that COVID-19 situation is not alarming and people are urged not to panic.
“We are monitoring the situation as there are always possibilities of a spike in fresh cases. Nonetheless, there is little chance of resulting in a massive wave as people are immunized against the Coronavirus through a successful vaccination drive,” he pointed out.
