October 27 (newsin.asia) – 541 coronavirus patients were detected in Sri Lanka yesterday (25). “499 contacts of the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster, 42 from quarantine centres” the Health Ministry said. This raises the Minuwangoda and Peliyagoda cluster count to 4,939.
The total number of confirmed cases stands at 8,413 with 4,464 active cases across the island according to the Health Promotion Bureau. 3,933 cases have recovered so far with 16 deaths reported.
19 coronavirus patients have been reported from the Ratnapura district as of yesterday (25).
Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said the first contacts of COVID-19 patients will be placed under home-quarantine from now on.
“If Sri Lanka reaches a community spread, there will be congestion in Intensive Care Units (ICU). In turn, the death toll will increase abnormally. If we continue with the current measures, we are heading towards a very dangerous point” Government Medical Officers’ Association’s (GMOA) editor Dr Haritha Aluthge said.
