Mar 1 (NewsWire) – The Sri Lanka Police has refuted a report published on the website of a private radio channel claiming that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched investigations into an alleged conspiracy to assassinate President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Police said in a statement that the news report published today (28) had claimed that a group belonging to a political party in Sri Lanka had conducted a discussion overseas in this regard.
The report had further claimed that the CID has received information that the group was planning on carrying out the assassination attempt within a period of two weeks.
The Police clarified that the CID has not received any such information and has not launched an investigation into any alleged assassination attempt on the President.
