COLOMBO, February 3 (Xinhua): Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo is a city surrounded by wetlands. An interlocking system of lakes and wetlands provides Colombo with green lungs and a natural drainage network.
Beddagana Wetland Park is a natural urban wetland with 18 hectares which is located on the outskirts of Colombo. It is home to many aquatic birds and other faunal species such as butterflies, dragonflies and mammals native to Sri Lanka and Asian Wetlands.
Beira Lake, located in the middle of Colombo, is called an “urban oasis”. Spread over 65 hectares, the lake offers not just a pleasant and tranquil view, but also a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
