Colombo, March 20 (NIA) – China on Monday said that a high level Defense delegation led by China’s Defense Minister had arrived in Sri Lanka to strengthen military ties with Colombo.
China’s Defense Minister, General Chang Wanquan arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday for a three day official visit following an invitation by Sri Lanka’s Defense Ministry, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said in a statement on Monday.
During the visit, General Chang will hold talks with President Maithripala Sirisena and Ruwan Wijayawardene, the State Minister of Defense as well as Defence Secretary, Karunasena Hettiarachchi.
He will also led his delegation at a powerful Defense dialogue with the Sri Lankan side which is to be held in Colombo on Monday afternoon.
Sources said the Defense dialogue which was being discussed with Colombo, was scheduled to be held next month. But on China’s request the delegation had advanced their visit to Colombo.
Wanquan has led a 20 member delegation to the island country.
