Colombo, November 15 (newsin.asia) Sri Lankan Police media spokesperson Ruwan Gunasekara has said that the army has removed all the unauthorized road blocks in the Tamil-majority Northern Province after an appeal was made to the armed forces by the police.
Road blocks put up in connection with the Presidential election on November 16 had to have prior permission from the Chairman of the Election Commission. But the army had put some unauthorized ones in Palai and Palali which triggered complaints.
Gunasekara said that the police took up the complaints with top level army brass who ordered the removal of the unauthorized blocks.
“The people are now moving about freely in the North and the province is peaceful,” Gunasekara said.
