March 9 (PSM News) – Political parties of Maldives have suspended all campaign activities for upcoming local council elections (LCE) and women’s development committee (WDC) elections.
The political parties said the decision was made to ensure the safety of citizens and to avoid public gatherings following the confirmation of COVID-19 cases in Maldives. In this regard, the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP) and opposition parties, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Peoples National Alliance (PNC), have announced the suspension of all political activities.
The government of Maldives has taken stringent measures against COVID-19 and advised all citizens to follow the advice and announcements from the authorities.
