Dhaka, July 29 (NIA): Bangladesh and India have agreed to immediately put into effect existing agreements on jointly combating terrorism, Dhaka Tribune reported on Friday.
The paper said that the decision was taken on Thursday at a meeting of the Home Ministers of Bangladesh and India, Asaduzzaman Khan and Rajnath Singh respectively, against the backdrop of the grisly July 1 machete attack on a posh restaurant in Dhaka which left 20 persons, including foreigners, dead.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen the ongoing cooperation between the security and investigative agencies of the two countries through a program of training, capacity building and information exchange.
Bangladesh and India emphasized the need for speedy implementation of three bilateral MoUs:
The MoU between Indian Coast Guard and Bangladesh Coast Guard for the Establishment of a Collaborative Relationship to Combat Transnational Illegal Activities at Sea and Develop Regional Cooperation;
The MoU to Prevent and Counter Smuggling and Circulation of Fake Currency Notes; MoU on Bilateral Cooperation for Prevention of Human Trafficking, especially Trafficking in Women and Children;
The MOU on Rescue, Recovery, Repatriation and Reintegration of Victims of Trafficking signed during the visit of the Prime Minister of India to Bangladesh in June 2015.
