Colombo has been identified as the epicentre of the Delta variant and is now fast spreading in other districts. Doctors said the Delta variant had now been identified in the North as well. As such, 10 political parties affiliated with the government have proposed to the president to lock down the country for three weeks.

The number of coronavirus positive patients detected in Sri Lanka crossed the 369,000 mark as another 3,660 new Covid-19 cases had been detected across the country yesterday (18) while Sri Lanka also registered 170 more Covid-19 related deaths yesterday, the Director-General of Health Services confirmed. The victims have succumbed to the virus infection on Tuesday (17).
