New York, September 18 (newsin.asia): Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirirsena ,who is in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly session, will meet with the Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on September 23.
The bilateral discussions that will focus attention on the progressive nature of the relationship between the United Nations and Sri Lanka under President Sirisena’s leadership and how this constructive and meaningful relationship could be further enhanced to benefit the people of the country, a Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry statement said.
The High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein will call on the President to discuss the progress in human rights in Sri Lanka under the National Unity Government.
Additionally, the Sri Lanka delegation is scheduled to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Meeting, the Informal Meeting of the SAARC Council of Ministers, the Ministerial Meeting of the Commonwealth, the Ministerial Meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, and that of the Group of 77.
President Sirisena will be addressing the UN General Assembly on September 19.
