Mumbai, June 21 (newsin.asia) – India’s head cricket coach, Anil Kumble, has handed in his resignation after he was informed by the BCCI that Captain Virat Kohli had reservations with Kumble’s ‘style’ and him continuing as the Head Coach.
In a statement, Kumble, a former Indian captain and cricketer himself, said Kohli’s reservations had surprised him since he had always respected the role boundaries between captain and coach.
“Though the BCCI attempted to resolve the misunderstandings between the Captain and me, it was apparent that the partnership was untenable, and I therefore believe its best for me to move on,” Kumble said.
He further said that in light of Kohli’s ‘reservations’, he believed it was best he handed over the Coach’s responsibility to whomever the CAC and BCCI deemed fit.
“Professionalism, discipline, commitment, honesty, complementary skills and diverse views are the key traits I bring to the table. These need to be valued for the partnership to be effective. I see the Coach’s role akin to ‘holding a mirror’ to drive self improvement in the team’s interest,” Kumble said.
India last week lost the final match of the ICC Champions Trophy to Pakistan.
