The BAR Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has put out a four-point suggestion for the authorities to take in order to restore public confidence and peace in the country.
The BASL condemned the violence against nonviolent anti-government protestors near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green on Monday, which resulted in widespread disorder.
The BASL stated that it rejects all types of violence and that individuals who commit acts of violence must face legal consequences.
The Association also criticized the police for failing to intervene to stop a crowd in Colombo from attacking nonviolent anti-government protesters.
The BASL stated that the Temple Trees’ acts of violence have further damaged faith in the whole system, including the President of Sri Lanka, and have put efforts to restore political and economic stability in jeopardy.
