Having been asked to check out Villa Raha’s cafe quite a bit, we decided we’d give the luxury villa’s cafe a shot. We hadn’t heard much about the cafe but had our fingers and toes crossed that it would be a good one that we could recommend to people without hesitation. Occupying the spot Superfood Cafe once called home, the restaurant left us with a bunch of mixed feelings.
What we had: Lindt French Toast, Smoked Salmon Salsa Verde, Hummus & Pita, Iced Milo Dino, Virgin Moscow Mule, Iced Lindt Chocolate.
Starting with the best dish, the French Toast managed to impress us all. The Lindt chocolate dip, caramel drizzle, macadamia nuts, strawberries and coconut whipped cream all worked great with the Brioche French Toast, making it truly sumptuous. The coconut whipped cream was ingenious, although its flavor was quite subtle, it really added to and enhanced the whipped cream, elevating the dish further. We liked that they did not skimp on anything here, and so we would definitely go back for this one!
While the Smoked Salmon Salsa Verde was also quite delicious (a shout out to the yummy salsa verde!), the poached eggs were, unfortunately, a little under. We get that poaching egg is a science and that it’s not as easy to get right, but in this case, the whites were quite under and hence really runny, and incredibly off-putting. We found ourselves pushing them to the sides, so we could enjoy everything else. The dish, on the whole, was simple, and so we really wish that the star of the dish – the eggs – had been done right so we could rave about it to everyone.
Although parts of the Hummus dish were pretty decent, this one impressed us the least. I particularly liked the bread. It was soft, had great texture and really complimented the hummus – of which there was almost an excess of. Now, we get that no one really complains of there being too much food, but 4 triangles of pita weren’t really enough for that much of hummus! The hummus was slightly on the bland side, but the strip of olives, herbs, and tomatoes down the middle added a punch of flavor that only just managed to save the dish. It also may have had some oregano thrown in (but I may be wrong here). We would not recommend this one for a main. Order it with the intention of sharing it with everyone else at the table, and get yourself something with a little more substance!
All the drinks were pretty good, with the milk-based ones being quite thick, flavorful and indulgent, and definitely not watered-down. Honestly though, what’s not to like about milk with Lindt chocolate or Milo?! The Iced Lindt Chocolate was delightful. It was refreshing and not too sweet – one sip and I was so hooked, I even considered ordering another one! The Moscow Mule was a wonderful refreshing combo of Lychee and Gingerbeer. The combination is not for everyone, but the drink, on the whole, was done well.
We absolutely loved the interior at Villa Raha – which was the exact same when Superfood Cafe occupied the space – quite minimalistic, but beautiful nonetheless with flowers hanging from the ceiling, and even swings for chairs. The dining area is outdoors, but there were plenty of fans working to keep us cool, and the natural lighting facilitates for nice pictures! We also really liked that from where we were seated, we could see the Villa’s small pool. It’s a lovely place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, even though it is nestled smack-dab in the middle of it! We urge you to go check out the place for yourself, and don’t forget to tell us what you think!
