Colombo, August 19 (NewsWire) – The Government has decided to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to all persons over 18 years of age by 30th September 2021.
The Cabinet of Ministers said today that the decision has been taken in order to reduce the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic.

Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved to purchase 09 million doses of Sinopharm and 14 million doses of Pfizer at the unit price decided by the Negotiating Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers for the vaccine requirements.
The Government said the Covid-19 vaccination program was planned to administrate for a population of 14 million initially with a view of protecting the population from the pandemic.
It further said that as of 09th August, the country has received 19.49 million doses of vaccines.
The Government revealed that 11.26 million doses were used as the first dose and 3.25 million doses were used as the second dose out of that consignment.
