Colombo, Dec 28 (DailyMirror) – Secretary to the President, Dr. P. B. Jayasundara has tendered his resignation letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, following objections raised by the cabinet of ministers who have urged him to step down, but the resignation is yet to be accepted by the President, the Daily Mirror learns.
Highly placed political sources said that Jayasundara had submitted a resignation letter around three to four pages long, detailing the obstacles he faced during his time in the position and had now sought the President’s permission to resign from office.

If President Rajapaksa accepts the resignation, Jayasundara is likely to resign in the first week of the new year.
The Daily Mirror had last week exclusively reported that Jayasundara was set to tender his resignation following rising objections raised against him with almost all the minister’s calling for him to step down as the Secretary to the President over various concerns.
At recent cabinet meetings, the matter had been raised by the ministers briefly and almost all the ministers present had raised concerns and were of the view that Jayasundara should resign from the post and a new face should be appointed.

A senior political source told Daily Mirror that one of the main allegations cited at the meeting was that Jayasundara was unavailable to discuss matters of government whenever the ministers attempted to contact him and other issues which are yet to be revealed.
The new name proposed to take over Jayasundara’s position as Secretary to the President is that of Gamini Senarath, current secretary to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa or Anura Dissanayake, Secretary to Ministry of Irrigation. (Jamila Husain)
