Colombo, July 1: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Dr.S.Jaishankar condoled the death of the Sri Lankan Tamil leader R.Sampanthan in Colombo at the age of 91.

Sampanthan was the leader of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA). He was a member of parliament from 1977 and played a leading role in shaping Tamil politics and the approach of the Tamils to the ethnic question in Sri Lanka over the years through negotiations with successive governments from the 1970s.
