Colombo, May 11 (AdaDerana) – The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says that the economic situation in the country will become worse if political stability is not established soon.
Addressing a press briefing in Colombo today (11), Dr. Weerasinghe also said that he will step down as the Governor if political stability in the country is not established within a week or two.
“if the current situation continues in the next two days, we could have 10 to 12 hour daily power cuts, massive shortages of fuel and other essential items”
“I took on this responsibility with expectations that political instability will be established within two weeks since Mirihana incident. It’s been more than a month with no progress. I do not wish to continue in this post if political stability is not achieved” he added.
