Colombo, March 19 (@serial.eaters #Instagram) –
You guys asked us for a proper review of Doner & Durum, so we went by again! We had to wait a bit for a table (approximately 15mins) since it was a weekend night and all, & the place is quite small, but in my opinion, it was worth it! They don’t have much on their menu, & while I usually do like choice, I’m not complaining because I was impressed by almost all of it! What I really like about the place is that they serve quality food, at good prices with really great service.
What we got: Snack Pack with Chicken (Rs.650), Durum with Chicken (Rs.650), Chicken Burger (Rs.600), Pomegranate Juice (Rs.450), Magic Cookie Bar (Rs.350)
The Snack Pack was the bomb! A decent portion of golden fries, covered in thin slices of well-marinated chicken, stringy cheese & what tasted like BBQ sauce, this was legit one of the best things I’ve eaten in a while. Everyone at the table agreed that it was pretty delish, & that they’d actually go back, just for that!
The Durum pretty much consisted of the same chicken mentioned above, wrapped in a soft flatbread. In addition to the delicious chicken, the wrap was also filled with some crunchy veggies (which didn’t overpower it at all), and a lovely hit of sauce. The dish came with a good portion of crispy French fries, and in our opinion was definitely worth the price.
The Chicken Burger was also definitely worth it. The massive chicken patty was grilled to perfection, but could barely be seen with the sliced cheese, & fresh veggies & the combo of sauces that sat on top. Taste-wise, we had nothing to complain about, but unfortunately – like most burgers can be – this was messy! That’s not me complaining though (cause boy, do I like me a burger or two), just warning you in advance to be prepared to have sauce dripping all over you!
There were a few drinks on the menu, most of which, if I’m not mistaken were yogurt based (they’re delicious, but not ideal if you intend on finishing your meal). We decided to give those a pass and try out the Berry Company’s Pomegranate juice. While this was refreshing when cold, it tasted quite watered down towards the end of my meal. It’s still an alright option though!
A combo of buttery shortbread, condensed milk, chocolate & coconut, the Magic Cookie Bar in one word, was WOW. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but I would have happily finished this on my own. It also came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which complimented it really well & left me craving more!
The spot only has a couple of tables, from where you can see your food being made. It can get quite busy during the weekend, so we suggest heading there nice & early!
