Colombo, Feb 21 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe informed Parliament on Wednesday that the cause of a bus catching fire in Diyatalawa earlier in the day was due to a hand grenade explosion.
Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake also revealed that according to initial investigations, the hand grenade may have been hidden inside the bag of a passenger.
The army, releasing a statement denied any terrorist involvement in the incident and said police investigations were continuing.
Nineteen passengers, including 12 military officers, were injured when the private passenger bus they were travelling in caught fire after an explosion.
Those injured were rushed to the Diyatalawa State Hospital. Two army personnel are said to be in critical condition.
The bus had been heading to nearby Kahagolla, from the main Diyatalawa town when the bus suddenly caught fire.
