March 27 (India Today) – Imagine taking a flight to a destination but finding out you have landed in an entirely different place you had intended to go! What would your first reaction be like in such a bizarre situation? You would probably end up freaking out; but then again, such a situation seems implausible. Or is it?
Recently, passengers on British Airways boarded a flight from London’s City Airport to Dusseldorf in Germany.
But they were met with a huge surprise when their plane landed in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh instead — 1,200 km away in the UK.
Apparently, the massive error occurred because an incorrect flight plan was updated, which led both the pilots and flight attendants to believe they were headed for Dusseldorf.
Thankfully, all the flyers finally reached their destined location after the plane took off a second time for Dusseldorf.
Amid all this, the passengers had the best reactions; mostly nonchalant.
A student onboard the flight told CNN, “When we started descending and I saw some taller hills/mountains, I did think that this isn’t how Eastern Netherlands/Western Germany should look like, but I assumed we took some small detour. Then my colleague sitting across the aisle from me told me to check Google Maps — and it showed us being around Carlisle [in the UK].”
“When we landed, there was a bit of a hilarious moment when the flight attendant asked for a show of hands for the people going to Dusseldorf, which turned out to be everyone,” she said.
Some flyers were even trying to convince their friends. “Most of us found this situation quite funny,” a passenger said. “People were on phone calls trying to convince everyone that they’ve arrived in the wrong city.”
The authorities are apparently now checking why the glitch happened in the first place. But this is definitely a comical yet bizarre situation.
