Colombo, July 5 (NewsWire) – Sri Lankan health authorities say there is a possibility for another COVID-19 wave to occur, warning that the pandemic could resurface due to the latest variant.
Thereby, the public has been advised to obtain the 4th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in order to safeguard themselves from the latest variant.

The Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena has urged the public to obtain the 2nd booster shot.
Stating that the new variant is highly transmissible, Dr. Gunawardena urged those above the age of 20 to obtain the 4th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Director-General of Health Services said that vaccination can prevent serious illnesses and deaths for those who contract the virus.
He further said that it was essential for those above the age of 60 and those expecting to travel overseas to receive their 2nd booster dose.
The vaccines can be obtained at all government hospitals, Medical Officer of Health Departments, and other allocated vaccination centres, Dr. Asela Gunawarden said.
He called on the public to reach out to the vaccination centres and prebook appointments due to the current situation in the country.
