Colombo, Sept 2 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 14 runs to lead the series 1-0.
Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat against South Africa in the first one-day international on Thursday. Avishka Fernando led the way with his third ODI century to set a towering total of 300 for South Africa to chase. Sri Lanka then restricted South Africa to 286 runs as they won the match by 14 runs.
Fernando became the sixth Sri Lankan to score an ODI century against South Africa after Marvan Atapattu, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara (all twice), Asela Gunaratne and Upul Tharanga.
