August 15 (90Min) – Real Madrid have issued a statement strongly denying a media report that they are considering leaving La Liga and exploring the idea of joining England’s Premier League instead.
Real recently announced their intention to pursue legal action against La Liga president Javier Tebas and CVC Capital Partners over the recent €2.7bn deal between the league and the private quality firm. Los Blancos have also remained committed to the European Super League concept.

A report from Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo on Saturday morning claimed that Real have been ‘studying the possibility’ of leaving La Liga for a number of weeks in order to join another ‘powerful league’ instead as a result of being ‘fed up’ with Tebas. The final straw was supposedly his opposition to the super league, which Real, Barcelona and Juventus still refuse to leave.
MD alleges that Real’s favoured destination is the Premier League but that Serie A and the Bundesliga have also been of interest to the 13-time European champions.
But within a matter of hours, Real have reacted to fully deny the report, labelling it ‘completely false’ in an official statement. They also called the idea of swapping La Liga for the Premier League ‘absurd and impossible’, suggesting the story’s only purpose is to ‘disturb the day to day of our club’.
Real kick off their 2021/22 La Liga season on Saturday evening with an away trip to Alaves. There are further games against Levante and Real Betis before the end of the month, providing an opportunity to get off to a good start in the hope of reclaiming the title they last won in 2019/20.
