New Delhi, June 20 (India Today) – India registered 58,419 new coronavirus cases and 1,576 fatalities due to the infection in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.
India registered less than 60,000 daily cases after 81 days, while daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 38th consecutive day.

The top five states that reported the maximum number of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours are Kerala with 12,443 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 8,912 cases, Tamil Nadu with 8,183 cases, Karnataka with 5,815 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 5,674 cases.
Maximum casualties were reported from Maharashtra (682), followed by Tamil Nadu with 180 daily deaths.
Meanwhile, India’s active caseload has declined to 729,243, while the country’s recovery rate now stands at 96.27 per cent.
The weekly positivity rate remains below 5 per cent and is currently at 3.43 per cent. The daily positivity rate is at 3.22 per cent, less than 5 per cent for 13 consecutive days.
A total of 1,811,446 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
The Centre on Saturday asked states and Union territories to step up vaccination and open up activities in a “carefully calibrated” manner, as it expressed concern about crowding in markets and other places following the easing of curbs and an expert warned that the third wave can hit India in six to eight weeks if Covid-appropriate behaviour is not followed.
