China, May 11 (India Today) – Taking a stroll on a glass bridge is quite an adventure for those daring enough to cross it. However, it can be really dangerous as well. Last week, a tourist was left stranded on a glass bridge at a resort – built into the Piyan Mountain in the Chinese city of Longjing – after it was damaged by strong winds. Pictures of the incident have now gone viral on social media.
Several glass panels of the 330 feet-high bridge were blown off by the wind gusting at a speed of up to 90mph on the Piyan Mountain, as per a report published in the Daily Mail.
In the scary pictures, the man was seen clinging onto the railing while the strong winds blew off the glass panels of the bridge. The footage of the incident was initially shared on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform.
The Straits Times said in its report that the man was stuck on the bridge for a brief period of time, after which a rescue team of firefighters, police, and forestry and tourism personnel helped him successfully crawl up and saved his life.
Here’s what the glass bridge looks like:
Reports stated that the man was immediately taken to a hospital and is currently receiving psychological counseling in the aftermath of the terrifying incident.
Thankfully, no casualties were reported.
The recent incident has once again raised public concerns over the safety of the growing number of glass bridges across the country.
Although the concept of glass bridges is becoming increasingly popular in China’s mountain resorts to attract tourists, quite a number of them have also witnessed major accidents happening in recent years.
In Guangxi province, the same year, a man bumped into the railing and died due to severe head injuries while he was trying to walk on a glass bridge which became slippery after rainfall.
