Beijing ,October 27 (NIA): China’s ruling Communist party has declared that President Xi Jinping is the party’s “core”, putting him in a more powerful position ahead of a key congress next autumn, The Guardian reported on Thursday.
A statement released by the party following a four-day meeting of party leaders in Beijing, and carried by state media, referred to Xi as “core of the party centre”.
Xi is also head of the party and the military, as well as Head of State.
Late Chinese strongman Deng Xiaoping coined the phrase “core leader”. Deng said himself, Mao Zedong and Jiang Zemin, were core leaders, meaning they had almost absolute authority and should not be questioned.
Since assuming office almost four years ago, Xi has rapidly consolidated power, including heading a group leading economic reform and appointing himself Commander-in-Chief of the military, though as head of the Central Military Commission he already controlled the armed forces.
The plenum meeting paves the way for a Congress, held every five years, in autumn 2017, at which Xi will further consolidate his power and could indicate who may replace him at the 2022 Congress.
A new standing committee, which currently has seven members and is the pinnacle of power in China, will be announced at the Congress.
The party communique said that party members were told to resolutely safeguard the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its central, unified leadership while pushing forward the comprehensive and strict governance of the Party, the party organ Global Times said.
The communique also urged them to become more aware of the need to uphold political integrity, keep in mind the bigger picture, follow the CPC as the core of the Chinese leadership and act consistently with CPC Central Committee policy.
“Together we must build a clean and righteous political environment, and ensure that the Party unites and leads the people to continuously open up new prospects for socialism with Chinese characteristics,” it said.
Unrestricted power or any unsupervised Party members are not allowed to exist within the Communist Party of China (CPC), said a statement released after a key CPC meeting on Thursday.
Supervision is the fundamental guarantee for exercising power properly, as well as a crucial measure for strengthening and regulating political life within the Party, according to the communique of the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, which ran from Monday to Thursday.
Party organizations and leading officials must not hide violations of Party discipline and laws, or problems reported by Party members, and must deal with such issues in a timely manner, said the communique.
It added that leading officials involved in issues reported should not participate in, intervene or meddle with investigations.
