Colombo, Oct 26, 2016: Sri Lanka’s national airline carrier, Sri Lankan Airlines on Wednesday said that it places the highest priority on the safety of its passengers all around the world, a standard which the airline refuses to compromise under any circumstances whatsoever.
In a statement, the Airline said that in connection to the delay of Flight UL132 from Trichy to Colombo on Oct. 24, the aircraft had arrived in Trichy during the scheduled time and during the routine technical walk-around check, a hydraulic fluid leak was observed by the engineer from the #2 Engine Driven Hydraulic Pump.
The technical team at Trichy verified that it was a component failure and confirmed that the pump needed replacement before the next departure.
“Therefore, in accordance with the highest safety standards maintained by SriLankan Airlines, the aircraft was temporarily grounded pending rectification of the fault. Due to the unavailability of a spare hydraulic pump in Trichy, it was necessary to await the arrival of a spare from Colombo. Following the replacement of the pump and confirmation that the aircraft was fit for flight, the aircraft departed Trichy at 05:45 PM,” the Airline said.
All passengers were provided refreshments and meals during this period of delay, as per SriLankan Airlines’ global standards and procedures, Sri Lankan said.
SriLankan Airlines while regretting the inconvenience caused to its passengers, reiterated that it was purely for the safety of its passengers that the delay occurred.
