Colombo, April 14 (newsin.asia) – Twitter on Tuesday (14) morning unsuspend the official account of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka 24 hours after it had suspended it causing a stir on social media.
The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka in a statement said that Twitter had contacted them on 14th April morning saying the suspension was a systematic mistake and had apologized over it.
On 13th April, Twitter suspended the official account of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka (@ChinaEmbSL), without informing any specific reason.
The Embassy made solemn representation to Twitter twice, requesting the latter to clarify and correct their decision, to avoid any misunderstanding and random association in the public. In the early morning of 14th March, Twitter officially replied to the Embassy for a “systematic mistake”, apologized and unsuspended the Embassy’s account.
The Embassy feels regretful to this “systematic mistake”, and would like to reiterate that the “Freedom of Speech” must be honoured, while not be misused to spread groundless, racial or hatred speech, nor be treated with “Double Standards”.
The account is actively tweeting the latest news and updates on China – Sri Lanka affairs but had been critical of any anti-China opinions.
