April 9 (Empire) – The Coronavirus has – as well as being a catastrophic global pandemic, let’s have some perspective here – brought various bits of bad news for Marvel fans. The Disney+ shows, including The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, are facing production delays. Black Widow has moved back to a November release, pushing back the whole of Phase 4 with it. But it’s not all bad news – the silver lining in all this is that Marvel Studios just officially announced the upcoming release of Captain Marvel 2.
Yes, Brie Larson will officially be back as Carol Danvers in a sequel – which is unsurprising, since her MCU debut pulled in over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Now we have a confirmed release date for the film in the newly-updated Marvel slate, which sees Captain Marvel 2 arrive on 8 July 2022. That’s just a few short months after Thor: Love And Thunder and Black Panther 2 – 2022 is looking to be a very good year for Marvel.
Other than that, we know little of what Danvers’ second story will involve. Will it be set in the present day, post-Endgame, after her first film was set in 1995? Will she still be wrangling with the Skrulls, who were once again teased in the final moments of Spider-Man: Far From Home? There’s a whole galaxy of possibilities out there.
The studio also has a release date planted for 7 October 2022 – but hasn’t yet confirmed what that project will be. Guardians 3? Blade? Ant-Man 3? Stay tuned for more news.
