August 15 (newsin.asia) – Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) is at the forefront of delivering top-notch educational programmes to students in Sri Lanka for over four decades, RIC’s partnerships with the University of London UK and Deakin University Australia enhances the quality of education in the Island.
The Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) was first established in 1991 and ever since RIC has been conducting degree programmes in diverse fields of study through the University of London International Programmes. Prior to 1991, Royal Institute had been conducting classes to teach for the external degree programmes of the University of Peradeniya. Therefore, RIC has over 35 years of experience in the higher education sector in Sri Lanka and over 27 years of experience in conducting University of London Certificate (Diploma) and Degree programmes. The reputation gained through the years led RIC to partner with Deakin University Australia in 2012 to offer BSc Engineering, Science and Bio-Medical Science degrees, where the students could complete the degrees in Australia.
Currently, RIC has a multi-cultural student and staff population studying and working in harmony. The location of RIC provides all the students with the advantages of a metropolitan campus with easy access to international information/resources centres, libraries, sports complexes, etc. They are currently reputed as the pioneer non-state higher education institute for the University of London International Programmes.
‘What gets measured gets managed’ is the mantra that successful businesses have adopted to stay competitive. The modern business marketplace is a data-driven environment. The role of data is to empower business leaders to make decisions based on facts, trends and
statistical numbers. Data is now at the core of nearly every business decision made.
RIC recognizes this shift, and see that the future will rely on the modern-day “New Oil”, which is Big Data and is at the foundation of all the megatrends sweeping the globe today. With this intent, RIC has gathered a panel of ‘Data Visionaries’ to discuss the urgency of adapting to a Data-centric approach for business success. The symposium is titled – BUSINESS REDEFINED: ADAPT OR DIMINISH.
The panel will consist of:
-Dr James Abdey – Associate Director of the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE)
-Rohan Jayaweera – COO, Antyra Solutions
-Gaurika Wijeratne – Associate Vice President – Business Intelligence, Fortude
-Umar Ghouse – Technology Innovator, Frontier Research
Dr James Abdey recognizes that businesses today have access to vast troves of data and yet very few companies are using these tools to anything like their full potential. His concerns revolve around companies missing out on crucial data that could substantially impact their revenues and return on investment. Companies who fail to engage with the data era risk falling by the wayside. His insights on why high-level analytics skills are in demand – and in short supply and how we can bridge this gap is highly valuable.
In Law, Dr James Abdey believes that Data mining techniques and statistical methods offer great opportunities for detecting, and preventing, crime. Forensic scientists can evaluate evidence statistically, attaching objective probabilistic beliefs to suspects being the perpetrators, while fraud detection is made easier through the deployment of analytics. The interplay of statistics and law is often overlooked, but this interdisciplinary mix can help improve legal decision-making.
The event is suitable for all students, teachers and business professionals. RIC cordially invites everyone to this insightful symposium with the hopes that it will help one adapt to future trends.
