Colombo, Aug. 13 (Xinhua): Sri Lanka has imported a train from China for the upcountry line at the cost 10.3 million US dollar (1.83 billion rupees) which will be the first of nine power sets, the island’s transport ministry said.
The train is able to run on the winding tracks n the up-country line, the local Economynext reported.
It will have two air-conditioned carriages, two second class carriages and two third class carriages and a dining car.
Sri Lanka plans to import nine trains from China for upcountry services, the transport ministry said.
Two of the trains will have four air-conditioned cars.
Sri Lanka hopes to start intercity services with the power sets.
