Aug 26 (NIA) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon will arrive in Sri Lanka on Aug 31 on a three day official tour, officials from the Foreign Ministry told NIA on Friday.
Moon is expected to begin his tour late on Wednesday and hold discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and deliver a keynote speech in Colombo on the UN’s global development goals.
The UN said that Ban is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka from Myanmar and will highlight the importance of development and human rights in both Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
Ban will also visit a resettlement site for displaced people in Jaffna, in the north, and take part in a conference on youth and reconciliation in Galle, in the south.
