Colombo, April 4 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lanka’s main coalition partner, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), on Wednesday finally announced that it would abstain from voting over a crucial no-confidence motion on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe which will be taken up for vote later in the evening.
The SLFP is headed by President Maithripala Sirisena and the party announced its decision after several rounds of discussions with the President, State Minister A.H.M Fowzie said.
The no-confidence motion on Wickremesinghe was presented to Parliament by Joint Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardena. It will be debated for 11 hours and a vote will be taken at 9.30pm.
With SLFP’s decision, Wickremesinghe’s United National Party is likely to defeat the motion and continue in government.
