Colombo, Nov 3 (newsin.asia) – A possible fuel shortage caused traffic jams and long queues near petrol stations in Colombo and the suburbs on Friday evening as workers claimed that fuel tanks had not arrived to distribute fuel throughout the day.
The shortage caused panic as consumers rushed to nearby stations to pump the little fuel that was left for distribution.
Taxis halted their services on Friday night claiming to have run out of fuel with no immediate explanation from the government.
Petroleum Ministry sources said that there had been a disruption in the distribution of fuel on Friday as it was a full moon holiday.
The Ministry however in a vague statement a short while ago said that there was no shortage of fuel in the country and a tanker with new fuel supply would arrive in the island on Monday.
Trade Union activists claimed that the CPC Tanker which was due to arrive in Sri Lanka on Friday had been delayed but distribution would get back to normal from tomorrow as there was sufficient fuel in storage till the fresh tanker arrives.
