Colombo, Feb 20 (NIA) – A high level Chinese delegation, headed by Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister, Kong Xuanyou arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday night to hold bilateral discussions with the Sri Lankan government.
During their two day official visit, the delegation is expected to hold talks with Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Assistant Foreign Minister met Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha De Silva on Monday morning where the two sides discussed matters of mutual concern.
Foreign Ministry sources told NewsIn.Asia that the visit was part of a bilateral visit and issues relating to various Chinese projects in the island country are to be discussed.
The ongoing Hamantota economic zone and the Hambantota Port, which has received a lot of opposition from the people in the south and opposition legislators is going to be one of the key topics of discussion.
The delegation is expected to conclude their visit on Tuesday evening.
