Feb 2 (newsin.asia) – Conquer Colombo, a signature initiative by the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School will be happening on the 9th of February 2020 at the sports ministry car park, Racecourse at 9.30 am. Conquer Colombo is the largest scavenger hunt in Colombo with the active participation of over 800.
This is introduced to promote teamwork and creativity among the contestants, regardless of age or gender. Participating teams are presented with a set of clues that should be solved in order to get to their destination to complete a challenge which in turn would award them points for doing so. Each challenge provides a unique experience, be it rowing across the Beira, Chopping up kotthu to the beat or even trying to ride a bicycle without pedalling!
Proceeds from Conquer Colombo will be utilized for the club’s biggest community service project “Project Life” through which we provide clean water to communities affected by Chronic Kidney Disease through rainwater harvesting systems and reverse osmosis systems. Over 1,100 chronic kidney disease patients are hospitalized per month in Sri Lanka and 300 deaths recorded per year. The death rate, however, is actually higher than this, because many of the victims die at home. We as a Club dedicated towards community service identified this issue and is now aiming towards lowering these numbers.
Since its inauguration in 2013, Conquer Colombo has received many awards. Conquer Colombo was recognized as the “Most Outstanding Rotaract Project” by Rotary International District 3220 in the year 2015-16. Conquer Colombo also won the People’s Choice award for the Most Outstanding Club Service Project in South Asia for the year 2016-17 at the Rotaract South Asia Multi-District Information Organization. These were only quite a few among the many awards that Conquer Colombo has won.
The theme for My Cola Conquer Colombo 2020 is Time Travel where the challenges would be phased across to signify the past, present, and future. The major focus of this year’s conquer Colombo is to highlight the culture of Colombo by blending the challenges with historic incidents of Colombo, or with its food, and some of Colombo’s predominant sites. 09th of February 2020 would be a day where Colombo would witness skyrocketed adrenaline where young adults would race across this sensational city exploring it’s an admirable and unique culture.
The winning team would be walking home with return air tickets to Singapore presented by Sri Lankan Airlines, followed by the runners up would be winning an overnight stay for the whole team at a Jetwing Hotel. More exciting awards would be awarded for the top 15 teams. In addition, More exciting prizes that three lucky teams would be able to walk away with are the Super Men, Wonder Women and Funkiest ride awards. “Supermen” would be awarded to the best all-boys team. Each of the boys in the Supermen team would win an LKR10000 worth voucher on the courtesy of Sam’s Hangout. Similarly, the team winning the “Wonder Women” award for the best all-girls team would be walking out with LKR 10000 worth gift vouchers each also from Sam’s Hangout, the perfect day-out to those four lucky girls out there. The other exciting award that My Cola Conquer Colombo has to offer to these energy-driven souls is the “funkiest ride” award where the team with the most eye-catching ride gets LKR25000 worth vouchers on the courtesy of Auto Miraj.
