Kabul, June 3 (Agencies): Three blasts in Kabul on Saturday killed at least 20 people at a funeral for one of the victims of clashes between police and protesters a day before.
The explosions continued a wave of violence in the capital since a devastating truck bombing on Wednesday killed 90 and injured hundreds.
Twenty people were killed by the blasts at the cemetery in Khair Khana area as people were attending the funeral of Salim Izdyar, the son of the deputy speaker of the Senate, Tolo News channel reported.
A government spokesperson said 87 injured people were taken to local hospitals.
Izdyar and four others were killed when a mass protest on Friday against spiralling violence triggered clashes between police and demonstrators.
Chief executive Abdullah Abdullah and foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani, who were at the funeral, escaped unhurt.
Abdullah said three suicide bombers targeted the funeral.
The violence, fuelled by public anger over the inability of President Ashraf Ghani’s government to ensure security in Kabul, has exacerbated tensions between rival factions, and Ghani issued a call for unity.
“The country is under attack,” Ghani tweeted. “We must be strong and united.”
