Colombo, Nov 18 (NIA) – Sri Lankan investigators, on Friday, arrested former Ambassador to the US, Jaliya Wickramasuriya for allegedly misusing state funds amounting to millions under the previous government.
Wickramasuriya, who is relative of former President Mahinda Rajapakse, was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) for allegedly accepting a US 245,000 dollar commission while serving as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US, under Rajapakse’s regime.
He is also alleged to have defrauded more than US$ 33,000 in purchasing a building for the Sri Lankan Embassy in USA.

He is expected to be produced before a local court later on Friday.
