Colombo, Oct 11 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, on Wednesday called on the public to fulfill their responsibilities to protect the environment in order to avoid natural disasters in the future.
Speaking at a National Tree Planiting event in the Central Hills of Kandy, Sirisena said it was a prime responsibility of everyone to be committed to the activities of environmental conservation.
The President said the recent floods which killed hundreds, earth slips and drought faced by in the Indian Ocean island was the results of the public not fulfilling their responsibility towards the environment.
He pointed out though the development is required, the development process should follow proper plans and policies. “They also should respect the regulations of nature”, he said.
