Colombo, June 21 (newsin.asia) – The Sri Lankan Police, on Wednesday said they had failed in their mission to arrest the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero, who was wanted for instigating hatred against minorities in the island country.
A Police Spokesperson who was present at the weekly media briefing said that while the police had success stories in apprehending those wanted, they also faced some failures such as the failure to arrest the Buddhist monk.
“I admit the police has failed. However he has surrendered to court today (Tuesday) and he has been granted bail,” the police spokesperson said.
Gnanasero Thero, who was wanted for making alleged hate speeches and attacks against minorities mainly the Muslims, surrendered to Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court on Wednesday after weeks in hiding.
The court recalled his warrant and released him on a previous bail.
Meanwhile, the Police, on Wednesday said they had arrested 15 people over attacks against minority communities in the island country.
