Colombo, May 18 (NIA) – Sri Lanka’s tri forces along with the police continued rescue efforts to search for survivors after a building collapsed in Wellawatta, in capital Colombo on Thursday, the police said.
According to rescue officials at the site of the disaster, voices of people trapped underneath heavy rubble were being heard while speedy operations were continuing to get them out.
However heavy rains and strong winds were hampering the operations, rescue officials said.
The Disaster Management Center said that 20 people had been rescued and had been rushed to the Kalubowila and Colombo National Hospitals minutes after the building, which was under construction, collapsed on Thursday morning.
The exact number of those missing is still unknown.
