Colombo, March 11 (newsin.asia) – Over 250,000 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka last month, resulting in a 7 percent growth compared to February 2018, statistics from the Tourism Ministry showed here Monday.
India, Britain, China, France and Germany were Sri Lanka’s top five international tourist generating markets while Russia and the US also recorded a significant growth.
The Ministry said that out of the 252,033 tourists arrivals, 32,286 arrivals were from India, 29,750 arrivals were from Britain and 28,039 arrivals were from China.
In February, China accounted for 11 percent of the total traffic, while India accounted for 13 percent and Britain 12 percent.
In the first two months of the year, Sri Lanka has already achieved over 490,000 tourist arrivals, with Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister, John Amaratunga saying they were well on target of attracting 3 million tourists by the end of the year.
With an aim of attracting 3 million tourists, the industry also expects to earn a revenue of 5 billion U.S. dollars from Tourism this year.
