Colombo, April 9 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lanka is to lead its largest ever business delegation to London next week to attend the Commonwealth Business Forum 2018 in a bid to attract more Foreign Direct Investments, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement here Monday.
The 50 member delegation will be lead by Commerce Minister Rishard Bathiudeen and will include leading Sri Lankan businessmen.
“Sri Lanka is one of the Strategic Partner Countries of 2018 Commonwealth Business Forum,” the statement said.
“During the Forum, Sri Lanka will also launch its own slogan and branding to promote its ICT sector,” the statement added.
According to the Commerce Ministry, Sri Lanka is considered as one of the major FDI attracting Commonwealth Destinations along with Bangladesh and Singapore.
Around 27 percent of Sri Lanka’s annual global trade in “goods” is being done with the Commonwealth whilst 40 percent of Sri Lanka’s global trade in “services” is also done with the Commonwealth.
During the Forum, Sri Lanka will unveil its new ICT branding called “Island of Ingenuity-Knowledge Solutions” which will portray the capability of the island’s ICT sector.
Sri Lanka is presently ranked 14 in terms of ‘speed of access to the internet’. Singapore leads the ranking, followed by UK.
