Colombo, April 4 (NIA) – Thirty eight Indian fishermen who were released from Sri Lankan custody were repatriated at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), North of Kankasanthurai, with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy on Tuesday, the navy media unit said here in a statement.
The fishermen were arrested during the period up to March 20 by the Sri Lanka Navy on the charge of poaching in Sri Lankan waters and illegally entering Sri Lankan territory by violating the international maritime law.
Accordingly, SLNS Ranawickrama and Coast Guard Craft CG43 (FAC) were involved in the repatriation of the 38 Indian poachers to the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Ayush’ at the IMBL, the navy said.
With the recently released 136 Indian poachers, Sri Lanka Navy has assisted the repatriation of 174 Indian poachers within this year alone.
