Aug 31 (NIA) – Sri Lanka, on Wednesday, announced it will set up a secretariat to work on a joint partnership agreement with Japan.
The Japan – Sri Lanka Joint Comprehensive Partnership Secretariat is to be set up in Colombo and Tokyo to facilitate a co-operation arrangement with Japan agreed upon during the official visit of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to Tokyo in October 2015.
During Prime Minister Wickremesinghe’s visit, Sri Lanka and Japan had agreed to declare the cooperation covering the areas of advanced agriculture, science and technology for industries, advanced infrastructure and regional development, education and human resources development, and civil security and safety.
Accordingly, the proposal made Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to establish the Japan – Sri Lanka Joint Comprehensive Partnership Secretariat in Colombo and Tokyo for facilitating the above purposes, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
