Colombo, May 3 (NIA) – Sri Lanka’s cabinet, on Wednesday, agreed to engage into loan negotiations and agreements with EXIM Bank of India to rehabilitate the Kankesanthurai Harbour, in northern Sri Lanka.
Cabinet Spokesperson, Gayantha Karunathilleke told a media briefing here that rehabilitation of the Kankesanthurai Harbour will encourage trade activities in the northern part of the island.
He said the Indian EXIM Bank had agreed to provide a loan of US 45.27 million dollars in this regard and the project would be handled by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
Accordingly, the proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to engage in loan negotiations and enter into relevant agreements with EXIM Bank of India, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
