Colombo, September 3 (Indian High Commission): The Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the construction of an auditorium and the purchase of vehicles for the Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies, Eastern University, Batticaloa, met under the Chairmanship of Vinod K. Jacob, Deputy High Commissioner, at the High Commission of India on September 2. The meeting was attended by officials of High Commission of India, Ministry of Education, Department of External Resources under the Ministry of Finance, the Project Consultant from the Department of Buildings and representatives of the Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies.
The PSC decided to fast track the project, which is aimed at strengthening the existing educational infrastructure at the Institute. The SLR 275 million project is being implemented as a High Impact Community Development Project in Sri Lanka and is a part of Government of India’s continued commitment to undertake people-centric developmental initiatives across Sri Lanka.
Overall, India’s developmental assistance to Sri Lanka stands at around SLR 517 billion, of which SLR 92 billion are through grants alone.
