Colombo, July 23 (newsin.asia) – The police have issued a lengthy statement explaining security personnel’s actions near the President’s office earlier yesterday (22 July).
At least nine people were arrested and several others were injured during a difficult scenario at the Galle Face protest site when security personnel evicted protestors near the Presidential Secretariat, according to authorities.

According to Sri Lanka Police, despite numerous requests for the protestors to leave the premises peacefully, the protestors refused to cooperate and acted rashly.
The statement said that after considering all other avenues and in the absence of an alternative method to remove the protestors, a decision was taken to remove them from the President’s Office in such a manner.
While police personnel are empowered by general law to enter, search, and arrest anyone, the Army has the same authority under the Emergency Regulations, according to Sri Lanka Police.
