Bengaluru, January 4 (India Today): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he wants India to match its success in space exploration in a “new frontier”: the exploration and use of oceanic resources.
Speaking at the Indian Science Congress in Bengaluru, Modi said on January 3 that India should map and “responsibly harness” water, energy, food and mineral resources in the oceans.
His government is working to ensure “Ease of doing Science” and using information technology to reduce red tape, Modi said and added that he was pleased to learn of India’s improvement in the Innovation index rankings.
Modi called on young scientists to “Innovate, Patent, Produce and Prosper”, saying these four steps would lead India towards faster development.
“The growth story of India depends on its success in science and technology sector. There is a need to transform the landscape of Indian science, technology and innovation,” he said.
Our successes in space exploration should now be mirrored in the new frontier of the deep sea.
